I work day to day running a social enterprise called Youth Unlimited, delivering talks in schools and colleges. I also work as a motivational speaker with a variety of companies on a regular basis, averaging about 100 talks each year. My main passion though, is climbing. I do every type of climbing, from Scottish winter climbing, to ice climbing, rock climbing, Alpinism and high altitude mountaineering. I work as an Expedition Guide for Jagged Globe and have climbed Kilimanjaro twice before, once in 2004 and once September 2009 when I took a team of 13 to the summit via the same route we will be climbing this summer, so I know the route well, and it’s definitely one of the nicest approaches, starting on a much quieter side of the mountain than most of the paths.
I have also climbed the highest mountain on every continent, including Mount Everest, [ Rhys is the youngest ever youngest ‘Seven Summiteer’ - ed] where I climbed in the same team as Harry Farthing.
Rhys is a British climber who reached the summit of Mount Everest on his 20th Birthday and claimed a World record as the youngest ‘Seven Summiteer’ (ie summiting the seven highest continental peaks). Rhys climbed with Harry Farthing on his Everest climb in 2006 which he undertook to launch the Schools Around the World charity.
